“Under the Surface” is a film about an expedition off the south west coast of Cornwall by a group of environmentalists, who sought to reconnect with nature and in doing so discover the challenges facing our marine environment.  Through their shared experiences we investigate the dangers of micro plastics in our oceans and positively encourage the audience to take small steps to help change our future.

Director Biography: Tom Sweetland is an independent filmmaker who conceives, directs and shoots original documentaries, TV commercials and branded content. He's passionate about creating authentic human focused stories that can disrupt opinions and create an open discord on sensitive subjects.  His work has been featured and screened by National Geographic, NOWNESS, BFI Film Festival, Topic and the London Documentary Film Festival.

Director Statement: Under the Surface is a film about an expedition off the south west coast of Cornwall by a group of environmentalists, who sought to reconnect with nature and in doing so discover the challenges facing our marine environment.  The film came about in response to being surrounded by such an incredible group of people who all shared my love for the ocean.
